Splinter Cell Blacklist Release Date Announced, New Trailer Out

January 16, 2013 by Alex Co

Ubisoft has finally announced Splinter Cell Blacklist’s release date!

Ubisoft has finally announced the release date for Splinter Cell Blacklist. Originally scheduled to be out in Spring this year, the game will now instead hit retail on August 20, 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

To commemorate this occasion, Ubisoft has also released a new trailer titled "Inauguration" that shows some of the U.S.' previous Presidents. Of course, it can't be a Splinter Cell trailer without Sam Fisher making an appearance and taking out bad guys silently.

In the trailer, the U.S. President is not Obama, but is a woman named Patricia Caldwell, who officially has terminated Third Echelon and replace it with "Fourth Echelon" with Sam Fisher acting as agency commander. I won't spoil any of the game's story, but just give the trailer a watch.

Not hearing Michael Ironside as Sam Fisher really is a bit jarring at first, but overall though, the game is looking really, really good. While we've mostly seen Fisher go to town on his foes using guns, don't forget that the game won't be abandoning its trademark stealth gameplay.

As an new game mechanic, Ubisoft is also using an "in-game economy" that shows you how well you finished each stage and where your strengths are.

Did you like Splinter Cell Conviction? If not, do you like where the franchise is going or should Ubisoft bring it back to its roots?
