You've heard of The Indie Humble Bundle, as well as The Indie Royale, plus a few other indie game bundles that totally escape us at the moment. Well, get read for The Free Bundle.
As the name implies, it's a bunch of indie games that are totally free of charge. One might think that something that's completely cost free might be questionably, quality-wise, but it's inaugural line-up at least is far from it.
Included you have Nitronic Rush, Ascension, Celestial Mechanica, Imscared, and Abobo's Big Adventure. The last one in particular is highly recommended. Most of the games are for Windows primarily, with a small handful sports Mac versions as well. And most recently, another game has been added to the line-up: Treasure Adventure Game.
According to the sites countdown, there is 30 days left till the next bundle. It's unsure if new games will slowly replace the old ones, or if a totally fresh batch will replace both the primary and secondary offerings.
The Free Bundle is the brainchild of the Cabrera Brothers, and when explaining why:
"We want to give REAL indie developers a chance to show their work. It seems the definition of indie game developer has… changed over the last few years. Today, we see guys with big offices, several published games (some even by Sony or Nintendo) and ten, twenty employees call themselves indies and we slowly shake our heads. See, we feel that while these guys are small devs, they are not exactly *indies* anymore.
Bottom line is, most of us work so much through the year we usually miss these beautiful, incredible well made games, they fly under our radar for several reasons! Well, not anymore.
Some you may know, some may be absolutely new to you; that's what's fun of this bundle! Discover new games you missed for free!"
While their definition of the term "indie" and their views on how some who are calling themselves are not truly the case is a bit off-putting, one can't deny the quality of the games being offered, as well as the price.
