‘DUST 514’ Merges With ‘EVE Online’ Tranquility Server

January 14, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Dust 514 is set to go into open beta next week.

CCP Games announced that their online first person shooter, Dust 514, is set to go into open beta on January 22. That’s next Tuesday, and it should be a part of the PlayStation Network’s weekly update. We reported on that earlier today.

The game has remained in closed beta for some months now, being available only to those who purchased points for use in the game on PSN, and to those who gained access through presentations of the game at PAX and other conventions.

The announcement of Dust 514’s open beta status comes in the wake of the reveal that the game would be having its contents merged with EVE Online’s only server, Tranquility, thus merging the two games into one wholly cohesive experience where players from both games can interact in some form or another.

“The launch of the Dust 514 Open Beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and Eve,” said CCP boss Hilmar Veigar Pétursson.

“But this is just the beginning. As we have done with Eve Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to the Dust 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.”

CCP has not said for how long the closed beta will last, but says that stats and progress accumulated in the test will be permanently keyed into player accounts. There will be no resets.
