Technology news site Fusible recently discovered that somebody has gone on a bit of a Batman-themed domain name shopping spree. Using WHOIS, the site found out that the big spender registered no less than fifteen (maybe they like round numbers?) names, all with incredibly typical words like “legends” and “universe” tacked onto some variant of “Batman” or “Arkham” or “DC”. The new owner of these domain names has kept his/her/its identity secret through the use of MarkMonitor's privacy service DNStination, but Fusible points out that one of the known clients of MarkMonitor is Warner Bros., and it's not much of a leap to suggest the company is the registrant.
So while it could be that a prankster is trying to trick the internet, it could also be that Warner Bros. is either trying to prevent others from registering sites it might need in future or getting ready to announce a new movie or game. Which of the potential names above sounds least crappy to you?
