Remember that archaic like violent video game burning we spoke of last week? The goal of the drive (which was created in response to the Sandy Hook shootings) was reputedly to raise awareness and provoke parents into having talks with their children, in addition to giving parents another outlet for their children other than playing, watching or listening to violent content.
However the drive focused on video games, though they took offense with all violent content aside from books. The committee defended their ideas to the gaming community, despite the fact they would be burning any game exchanged for no apparent reason.
And now, they've suddenly cancelled the drive without any real given reason as to why. Talking to TheVerge community member Dick Fortunato stated, “It would create an unnecessary amount of logistical details for us”. The committee said the goals of raising "strong awareness" and promoting discussion had been achieved.
This sounds a lot like a case of cold feet, or simply crying for attention with no real intentions to ever go through with the plan. While it can be viewed as good thing that they did not go through with the video game exchange drive, it still leaves one to wonder if they were simply trying to jerk around the gaming community rather than actually help parents.
