Ni No Kuni Composer Joe Hisaishi Shares His Experiences

January 9, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Joe Hisaishi, who has worked with Studio Ghibli many times before, says he was "blessed" with this project

Namco Bandai Games has released another video about upcoming RPG Ni No Kuni, this one focused on the absolutely beautiful music that features throughout the game.

Composer Joe Hisaishi, who composed the music for the game, is known for his work with Studio Ghibli on its popular films like My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away. Since Studio Ghibli is working with Level-5 on developing Ni No Kuni, it makes sense that the team would ask for Hisaishi to come on board.

Hisaishi says that he saw Level-5 chief Akihiro Hino had a lot of passion for the project, and thought it was an exciting one, which made him happy to take part. He says he was “blessed” in that he was able to compose the music for the game with relative ease, with the central theme song and general atmosphere coming to him easily and the rest sprouting from there. Hisaishi was able to write 21 songs in 7 days, which sounds impressive to me though I'm no composer.

Apparently, the music is created for everyone to be able to enjoy, with elegance, based on the “traditional folk music” of countries like Ireland. Whatever the inspiration was, it all sounds beautiful, the perfect soundtrack to such an enchanting game.
