Razer Unveils Most Powerful Tablet in the World, Aimed at Gamers

January 8, 2013 by Jeanine Celestin-Greer

Your computer can’t handle Skyrim? No problem, Razer says you can just use your new tablet

American computer peripheral manufacturer Razer is probably best known for their innovations in gaming keyboards and mice. But the company has recently begun not just making stuff for computers, but actually making them, with a line of laptops of their own. Now they're adding an impressive gaming geared tablet to their repertoire, right on the heels of Nvidia's Project Shield.

Razer unveiled the Razer Edge today at the annual Consumer Electronics show held in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are two versions of the tablet, standard and pro. Razer appears to be supremely confident about their new tablet, claiming it is "the most powerful tablet in the world." Razer claims the tablet will be able to run games like Dishonored and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim right out of the box, no problem.

Backing Razer's bold comment up with specs, the Windows 8 tablets uses an Intel Core i5 for standard and an i7 processor for the pro version. The standard has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and an impressive 64 GB solid state drive (SSD), while the Pro tops this with 8GB of RAM and a 128 GB. Simply put, this thing is more power than most people's desktop computers. Both tablets share a 1366×768 resolution, topping Apple's Ipad2, but still staying under Google's Nexus 10 tablet's 2560×1600.

So how much you're asking? You'll spend about the same amount as you would for a computer on this one, with the standard version at $999 and the pro at $1,299.

Of course the tablet will have a host of accessories for you to drop more money on as well, like a dock that makes it into something akin to a controller, as shown in the picture above. But the gamepad will come steep at $249.

You'll be able to buy the Razer Edge through Razer's website sometime in the first quarter of this year.
