Guillermo Del Toro May Have Found A Home For ‘Insane’

January 7, 2013 by Holly Green

Says “one of the big ones” is interested.

The financial struggles of THQ this past year have caused a number of gaming casualties, among them Guillermo Del Toro's survival horror game inSANE. Planned as part of a trilogy and slated for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, the game was cancelled this past August, with creative rights going to Del Toro following the ailing publisher's decision. Now in a new interview with the Toronto Sun, the celebrated Mexican filmmaker says inSANE may have a new home and still see a final release:

"We are in talks with a very, very big company. I can’t say who, but it’s one of the big ones. They really responded to the game, they responded to what we were trying."

While the core principles of the title will be retained, Del Toro goes on to say a few changes will have to be made:

“Some of the devices of the game I need to update, because now I’ve seen them in other games that just came out. That always happens. But the principle we’re trying to do with the game is to make it a really immersive narrative experience. It’s still a really challenging proposal.”

Del Toro disclosed to IGN at the end of November that inSANE is indeed still in development, though it was not detailed which developer has taken over the project. In the same interview, he also mentioned the game had previously only been in the pre-development stages, and that there's still a lot of work to be done, making a late 2014 release more likely than 2013:

“It’s going to take a good two years of modeling and rendering and creating the environments and all of that. The basic tenants of the game is that it’s created, but now we’re going to need to start actually making it.”
