308,570 Wii Us Were Sold In Japan During Its First Two Days

December 12, 2012 by Matt Hawkins

And not surprisingly, many people also picked up the latest installments of Mario and Monster Hunter.

The Wii U finally came out in Japan, and according to Siliconera, citing Famitsu as its source, 308,570 Wii Us were sold during its first two days.

On the software side, New Super Mario Bros U was the most popular title, and racked up 170,563 units sold. That equates to about roughly 55% of those who picked up the new system also got Mario.

Next is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which moved 110,159 copies and a 36% attach rate. Nintendo Land came in third, with 78,461 copies sold and a 25% attach rate.

In Japan, they two had two packages to choose from the Standard and Deluxe Set, but unlike in the US and Europe, Nintendo Land was not included in the latter.

Back to hardware, the 308,570 is fairly strong, though both knowledgable and skeptical individuals have pointing out that the PlayStation Vita actually had stronger launch numbers. During its first two days, it managed to move 321,407.

The Wii U debut figure is also not quite as strong as those belonging to the original Wii, DS, 3DS, or even the GBA (though obviously, there is a considerable divide as it pertains to the price point of each named piece of hardware).

Anyhow, some are wondering if the Wii U will sizzle as fast and as hard as Sony's latest device, though once more, that's a fairly unfair comparison for a number of reasons, some of which is fairly obvious.
