2D Fighter Fantasy Strike Looks Beautiful, Plays Even Better

July 11, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Fantasy Strike blends the best of Street Fighter, Guilty Gear and Super Smash Bros altogether.

Lead designer of the Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix David Sirlin is making an accessible new fighting game chock a block full of beautiful animations and precision based gameplay that’s surprisingly easy to learn. Yes, you heard right. Although fighting games have gained a reputation for increasingly complex control systems, Fantasy Strike is doing things differently by assigning attacks and special moves to just a few buttons. Instead of bogging you down with unintuitive technique that are difficult to memories, Fantasy Strike puts the focus back on fighting fundamentals: timing, distancing, zoning, and strategy.

There’s a bunch of different ways to play, like casual play online, arena runs, local versus or competitive ranked matches. Fantasy Strike is described as a “melting pot” of Street Fighter, Smash Bros and Guilty Gear, and features a random, diverse selection of characters including a Panda.

At the moment, Fantasy Strike is on crowdfunding platform Fig where it’s looking for support to enhance the game with more polished visuals, inject more content and so on.

Fantasy Strike will launch in Q3 of 2018 for PC, Mac, Linux & PlayStation 4.
