Onimusha Reboot Rumors Debunked by Ninja Theory

December 3, 2012 by Alex Co

Ninja Theory has confirmed that they are not working on an Onimusha game.

Ninja Theory's upcoming reboot of Capcom's Devil May Cry franchise into "DmC," is about a month away from release and it seems the studio doesn't want to give false hopes to fans in regards to another Capcom reboot.

Ninja Theory has taken to Twitter to squash any rumors going around that they're developing an Onimusha reboot for the publisher. Here's the exact statement released by the studio.

We are not working on an Onimusha game. Any rumours surrounding this are untrue.

Onimusha, for those not familiar, was one of Capcom's big franchises last-gen that made its debut in 2001. It was an action-adventure game with supernatural elements added in to spice things up. While it spanned numerous sequels and spin-offs, the last game in the franchise was released way back in 2006 with Capcom seemingly pulling the game from its current-gen roster.

This isn't the first time an Onimusha game was rumored to be in development. Just this September, we reported on a rumor that Spark Unlimited, which is developing Lost Planet 3 for Capcom, was tasked to reboot the franchise.

For Onimusha fans, don't worry that much as even if Ninja Theory has denied any involvement on their end, I suspect Capcom won't just let the franchise die…and with Resident Evil 6 being what it is, Capcom can get all the help it can get, no?

Would you want a new Onimusha game? If so, who would you want to be developing it?

Thanks, OXM
