Following our post on the Wii Mini's Best Buy leak, Nintendo has now confirmed the redesigned Wii's existence and its corresponding details.
This red console will be exclusive to Canada — for now, at least — and will be priced at $99.99. Now here's the "interesting" part, according to its press release, the Wii Mini won't have GameCube support or even allow you to connect to the internet. Yep, you read that right; a console being released in 2012 won't have a way to connect to the internet.
In Nintendo's own words, the Wii Mini, "ss designed exclusively to play Wii games. Its family-friendly design has no Internet capabilities and does not play Nintendo GameCube games. It's a great value for first-time Wii owners who just want to jump in and experience all the great Wii games that helped usher in a revolution in motion-controlled gaming."
The actual console itself will come with red and black Wii Mini system, a sensor bar and red MotionPlus controller with a Nunchak.
While the omission of features won't win over any fans, I do admit, the Wii Mini looks good in the images below.
Same with our post earlier, the console will be out on December 7 in Canada. Currently, Nintendo has no announcement regarding the Wii Mini's availability in other territories.
While Nintendo and its Wii isn't really known for having the best online platform, completely taking it out is a different matter altogether, no? So, anyone willing to bite on one of these? If so, will the lack of GameCube backwards compatibility and internet access not a deterrent in any way?
