GOG.com Adds Windows 8 Support to 90% of Its Games

November 27, 2012 by Jordan Erica Webber

431 of the games on GOG.com are now supported in Windows 8

Windows 8 has been a bit of a headache as far as PC gaming is concerned. Developers at companies like Valve and Blizzard have called it a “catastrophe” because of its lack of openness. Marcus “Notch” Persson – the creator of Minecraft – echoed these sentiments, saying a locked-down Windows 8 is bad for indie developers. And then there was that whole hiccup with Microsoft refusing to display content with a rating over PEGI 16 before changing their minds.

But it looks as though Windows will get a big helping hand as far as PC gamers are concerned now that GOG.com has announced that it officially supports the OS. GOG.com sells a huge range of popular classics, and now 90% – or 431 titles – of those are supported in Windows 8. According to the announcement, players shouldn't even have to re-download the installer.

With the team at GOG.com promising they'll add more Windows 8 games to the catalogue in future, it looks like those who choose to upgrade or otherwise end up stuck with Microsoft's controversial new OS will at least have plenty of games to keep them happy. Is this enough to settle your Windows 8 worries? Or will you be sticking with an earlier OS?
