Borderlands 2 Isn’t Coming For The Wii U, Gearbox Explains Why

November 26, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Gearbox explains why the company has no plans to bring Borderlands 2 to the Wii U.

Gearbox Software has no plans to bring their biggest game, Borderlands 2, to the Wii U. The studio said that nothing about the Wii U could justify porting the game.

In an interview with GamesMaster (via NintendoEverything), the studio's boss Randy Pitchford said that they'd only develop a port of Borderlands 2 for the Wii U if they could find something to do with the device's unique GamePad, which sadly enough, they could not.

"We get asked if there is going to be a Wii U version of Borderlands, and the reason why there's not is because we couldn't think of a natural, obvious, 'OMG, I want that for what the Wii U brings to the table' feature," he said.

Pitchford said that the studio's other upcoming game, Aliens: Colonial Marines, would be a much better fit on the device because they could think of things to do with it on the Wii U. He cited the game's motion scanner device—as featured in the Aliens films—as something that felt right at home on the Wii U.

"But with Aliens, the first thing we thought was 'Holy shit, I can have a motion controller in my hands!' When it's there in my lap it feels like I'm part of the movie."

I don't see any reason to disagree with Pitchford. It's not as if Borderlands 2—which is currently available on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3—would benefit much from having a new release on the Wii U.
