BioShock Infinite Will Have No Multiplayer

November 26, 2012 by Jordan Erica Webber

Ken Levine confirms that BioShock Infinite will ship as single player only

There have been rumours that the proposed multiplayer elements of BioShock Infinite have been cut since members of the development team started leaving for other companies and the game was delayed until next year. But now, creative director Ken Levine has finally confirmed those rumours on Twitter. When asked by a follower if he could clear up whether or not the game would have multiplayer modes, he said “nope”. When asked, by another follower, to clarify his answer, he did so:

RT @wolverine11111: @IGLevine Does that mean nope it won't or nope you can't clear that issue up? –No multi.

Multiplayer was originally hinted at via a job posting looking for someone with experience with network-connected games and things like matchmaking and stat tracking. The news was far from universally celebrated, presumably because of the success of BioShock and BioShock 2 without the need for any multiplayer.

BioShock Infinite is due to launch in February next year for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The game takes place in an earlier time period than BioShock and BioShock 2, and seems to have a completely separate story. Its city in the sky setting looks particularly impressive. Will the lack of multiplayer put you off, or are you glad of the news?
