Brink Developers Set to Unveil New Project Next Week

November 23, 2012 by Alex Co

Splash Damage, developers of FPS Brink, is set to unveil something next week!

Splash Damage, the studio behind Brink, is set to unveil a new project on November 29. This was teased by the studio on its own website where the image shown above can be seen.

While we do know that whatever the studio is cooking up will be revealed on November 29 at 11:29 (I'm guessing CET?), there hasn't been any other info released so far.

Splash Damage started as a FPS modding group which worked on games such as Quake 3. After that, the studio was then commissioned to develop Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, a stand-alone expansion based on Return to Castle Wolfenstein which gained several awards and praise from both fans and critics alike.

Sadly, Splash Damage's most recent and original game did not meet the same success. I am, of course, talking about Brink. Published by Bethesda, the class-based shooter tried to combine parkour elements, class-specific gameplay features with arcade shooting mechanics. While the overall premise was good on paper, the studio somehow failed in execution. To date, the game's highest metacritic average is at 72 on the PS3.

Chances are, this unannounced game will be another shooter. Hopefully, this one will be able to erase Brink's failings but will incorporate some of the good things the game had going for it. For all of the things it did wrong, Brink's character and gun customization is still unparalleled in a multiplayer FPS to this day. Not to mention its infusion of parkour movements meant that it didn't constrict itself to just walking, running and climbing. It's the overall gunplay which felt hollow and unsatisfying that was the main problem…at least in my opinion.

Do you think Splash Damage has the balls to develop Brink 2? If not, what do you want to seem from them? Come to think of it, has anyone here played Brink at all?

Thanks, AGB
