Peter Molyneux Launches Kickstarter for “Project Godus”

November 21, 2012 by Alex Co

Peter Molyneux has a new game in mind and he wants your help.

Gaming visionary Peter Molyneux is cooking up another game and this time, he's asking fans to help fund it.

Simply called "Project Godus," Molyneux is using crowd-funding source Kickstarter to help back the game financially. Molyneux calls it, "the next big step in (our) journey," and adds, "everything I am will be put into this."

From the potential project's Kickstarter page, it's mentioned as an innovative reinvention of Populous, the original "god" game created by Peter himself back in 1989 when he was still with Bullfrog. According to him, Project Godus delivers "exciting global co-operation, competition, creation and destruction to a whole new generation."

As it stands now, it has garnered £15,733 out of the £450,000 the company needs in order to put the game out.

Here are the game details straight from Molyneux & Co. themselves.

  • It’s a living world, unique and detailed. And it’s a world you influence, whether you’re good or evil.

  • GODUS is instantly accessible, easy to learn but immensely deep.

  • As you flourish and build your own cult, you’ll engage in pitched battles with other gods and their cults. It’s a multiplayer power-struggle the way it should be.

  • GODUS draws on the cunning battle-psychology of Dungeon Keeper, the living, changing world of Black & White and the instinctive, satisfying gameplay of Populous.

  • Plus you get to be a god. In fact, play well and you get to be the ultimate god!

  • GODUS will be developed for the PC and Mobile devices, we hope to be able to add more platforms as our Kickstarter campaign progresses.

Here's also the project's teaser trailer to whet your appetite.

Lastly, Molyneux states that Godus will take seven to nine months to complete, and if they exceed their Kickstarter goals, they'll use the extra money to enhance the game further and support additional platforms.

If you want to read up more on Godus, click on its Kickstarter page and maybe you can donate a dollar or two while you're at it.

22 Cans' first "game" released, which is the quirky cublet-destroying game Curiosity, has managed to attract more than 150,000 users on its first day of release.

While Molyneux does have a reputation for over-promising and under-delivering, he did create the "god" game genre and his previous stabs at it (Black & White) have been quite good, too. So bear that in mind, before you dismiss it straightaway, alright?
