Mass Effect 4: BioWare Asks if You Want It to Be a Prequel or Sequel to the Trilogy

November 20, 2012 by Alex Co

BioWare is now asking fans if they want the next Mass Effect game to either be a prequel or a sequel to the Mass Effect trilogy.

Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson went on Twitter to ask fans whether "Mass Effect 4" should be set before or after the events of Mass Effect 3.

Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game. Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?

Of course, it's no secret that a new Mass Effect game is under development; although we're not sure if it will even be called Mass Effect 4. But we do know it's being built on DICE's Frostbite 2 game engine by BioWare Montreal.

While I'd love to see how the world of Mass Effect came to be, there is a chance that setting it as a prequel will bring in a new host of questions that might contradict with what we've played so far. However, setting it as a direct sequel might also leave fans wanting Commander Shepard back in the mix — a point BioWare has adamantly said will not happen.

So, the better question should be: are you willing to play a Mass Effect game where they introduce the other races and how everything came to be or would you rather see what happens next after Commander Shepard's journey?

I might be in the minority here, but I wouldn't mind seeing more Commander Shepard. Sure, BioWare kind of stuck themselves in a corner with Mass Effect 3's ending, but it should be easy enough to amend, no?

If it was up to you, how should BioWare continue the Mass Effect franchise? Would you rather see how it all started or should there be a new threat to the galaxy since the Reapers are "gone?" Come to think of it, would you want to be a Turian, Krogan or some other race in Mass Effect 4 or should it be a human still so players can emphatize more?

Thanks, Eurogamer
