PS Vita Gets PS+ Next Week with Firmware 2.00, Uncharted and More for “Free”

November 19, 2012 by Alex Co

Sony has revealed the games that will be part of the Instant Game Collection for PS+ PS Vita members. Read on for details.

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Vita will be getting a firmware 2.00 update and with it, comes PlayStation Plus. According to Sony, the new firmware update will bring a new email app, the ability to transfer content wirelessly between the PS Vita and PC, and enhancements to the web browser.

While the updates for the handheld are good in itself, the big changer here is PlayStation Plus. In addition to online storage for game saves, automatic updates and Trophy synching, the PS Vita will get its own Instant Game Collection; which, like the PS3, will be updated constantly.

Starting on November 20, PS Plus PS Vita members will be able to download the Instant Game Collection which will include the first five games initially: Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Jet Set Radio HD, WipEout 2048, Gravity Rush, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack! and PSP and PS1 classic, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

Yep, you read that right. Uncharted for the PS Vita will be "free" for PS+ members! Not bad, no? Sony has also released a video giving people a sneak peek at what to expect for firmware 2.00.

The best part here is that if you're an existing PS3 PlayStation Plus member, then you'll reap the benefits immediately. In short, getting a PS+ membership for either platform will mean you'll be a member for both.

Not a bad move by Sony. I expect this should kickstart PS Vita sales a fair bit, no? Anyone picking up a PS Vita now that you'll be able to download five games for free if you're a PS+ member?
