The launch lineup for the Wii U is fairly small, but then that's true of most consoles in their very first days. And besides the physical games on offer, the Wii U also has downloadable titles in the eShop, one of which is Trine 2: Director's Cut, from Frozenbyte Games.
Both Trine and Trine 2 have metacritic scores of 80-85, so they're obviously solid little games. The premise is of an action platformer with physics-based puzzles, set in a beautifully enchanting fantasy world. You can play the campaign cooperatively with two other players – with whatever mix of local and online you'd like – taking on the roles of a thief, a wizard, and a knight. Naturally, each of these has his or her own special abilities that will be used to solve the puzzles and help out the other characters.
Frozenbyte has said that the Wii U version is able to do things the PS3 and 360 couldn't handle, though developers are always going to say things like that. This Wii U exclusive Director's Cut does have a few extra features, however, including the Goblin Menace add-on campaign and a level called the “Dwarven Caverns”.
