Nintendo’s NES Classic Outsold Both The PS4 and Xbox One in April

May 19, 2017 by Jordan Coetsee

Big ups Nintendo!

The month of April has quite possibly been Nintendo’s best ever yet, the publisher announced that the Switch was best-selling console in the US for April, but according to NPD Group Nintendo has actually taken both first and second place for best-selling console, with the NES Classic coming in second.

“Nintendo owned the top 2 platforms in unit sales for the month, with the Nintendo Switch at No. 1, followed by NES Classic,” NPD analyst Mat Piscatella.

This means that Nintendo’s nostalgic NES Classic, beat both the Xbox One and PS4 – but really, is it any surprise considering the price tag difference (the NES Class Cost only 60$), it came pre-loaded with 30 classic games and in April Nintendo announced the sad discontinuation of the console.

Once the discontinuation was announced, the already hard to find the console, caused a rush to snag the last couple of shipments – now it seems retailers have their shelves empty. Anyone looking to still grab one of these iconic mini NES consoles will have to go through eBay or second hand sites.

In other Nintendo related news, Switch fans will be pleased to see that the upcoming ARMS Global Testpunch will be running at an excellent 1080p with 60fps.

According to Digital Foundry, a team of guys dedicated to previewing the software performance on hardware, The Nintendo Switch exclusive, ARMS Global Testpunch is set to run at 1080p at 60fps when docked, and 900p when undocked and in splitscreen

Sad to see the NES Classic die out so quickly? Personally I didn’t understand the hype surounding the console – surely it would be better to find the real deal or settle for an emulator? For me the novelty is on the same level as owning that Power glove, it looks nice, but at the end of the day is it really worth wasting $60? Thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
