Black Ops 2 Intelligent Spawn System Detailed

Black Ops 2 will offer a new intelligent spawning system to cut down on spawn campers.

Treyarch’s lead eulogizer David Vonderhaar has confirmed on the IGN Live Stream that the upcoming Black Ops 2, which is set for release in two days, is set to feature a new spawning system that will help to alleviate the camping problem in previous Call of Duty titles, including the more recent Modern Warfare 3.

In previous games, these spawns were entirely static and allowed—or rather, caused—you to spawn in bad locations that got you killed the instant you appeared. This problem gave opposing players, especially those who knew where to camp, the upper hand in multiplayer. Treyarch plans to alleviate these issue with a new spawn system, which Vonderhaar described as follows:

“We wanted to make you spawn close enough to the action so you don't have to run far without giving you a bad spawn.”

A “bad spawn” is determined based on whether you receive or deliver damage within three seconds of spawning. These results are then recorded onto the server to prevent other players from suffering the same problem. It’s a highly emergent system that evolves as the game is played over time.

Black Ops 2 is set for release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 12.
