A report on the Wall Street Journal claims that The Legend of Zelda franchise will be heading to smartphones by the end of the year. Nintendo is yet to officially confirm the report, but after its debut into the mobile realm with Super Mario Run, the likelihood is strong.
The Wall Street Journal also says that the Zelda app will release right after Animal Crossing – which is expected to release in the second half of 2017. This announcement aligns with comments Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima made earlier this year regarding the company’s continued investment in mobile titles. Although no details on the Zelda game have been revealed so far, we do know that DeNA (also responsible for Super Mario Run, Miitomo and Fire Emblem Heroes) will be handling the production side of things.
Another point of interest for the proposed Zelda title is whether it will be completely free to play, or like Super Mario Run, only offer players a ‘gameplay lite’ experience until they unlock the full game for a price. What are your thoughts?
