Skyrim DLC for PS3 is Close

How much longer will PS3 players have to wait?

Yesterday, Bethesda used Twitter to drop the news PS3 owners have been waiting months for:

To update: we’re also close on new Skyrim content for PS3 and PC.

At the time of writing, the statement has been retweeted around 400 times and favourited by half as many people, so it's clearly a popular bit of info, though some of the replies seem cynical:

It's unfortunate that @BGS_Devs cares so little for PS3 owners. Little updates that provide no real information just makes things worse.

I agree after so long of getting shafted they should say something meaningful. but it is slightly better than nothing

It could be worse, though. This could have just been an accident, PS3 mindlessly dropped in when the person responsible for the Twitter account should have been only talking about the PC. But Bethesda seems to be sticking to its guns, as it tweeted four hours later:

Thanks to all our fans. We think you'll love the new stuff. We know it takes us time and thanks for all your support and patience!

And PS3 players have been incredibly patient. From Skyrim's launch, the PS3 version has been reported to have multiple issues. Back in August, Bethesda's Global Community Manager said that the issue with making downloadable content for Skyrim work on the PS3 was “not a problem we're positive we can solve”. In September, Pete Hines – VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda – lost his cool a little when talking to an angry fan, telling him he doesn't buy games “on the promise of DLC”. “I rarely play DLC anyway,” he said, “For me, it's about the game.”

What do you think? Do developers have a responsibility to get DLC out for all platforms on which they've released the game? And if this DLC does ever come out for the PS3, will you get it in the knowledge that it might not work as well as it could?
