Mass Effect: Andromeda Allegedly Sold 1.03M Copies First Retail Week in The West

May 2, 2017 by Jordan Coetsee

Comparatively, how well did it do well?

Following the insane amount of hype and the unfortunate influx of news pertaining to the game’s character poor animations – Mass Effect: Andromeda performed pretty well selling around 1.05M copies during the first week of retail in the west.

The information comes from VGChartz Global Weekly Chart a site that provides well-constructed estimates for game sales. The sales can be view here for the week ending March 25.

Breaking down the sales by platform, the game sold best on the PlayStation 4 with 619,947 units sold (60%), compared to 347,802 units sold on the Xbox One (33%) and 63,879 units sold on Windows PC (7%).

Breaking down the sales by region, the game sold best in the US with 483,714 units sold (47%), compared to 364,072 units sold in the Europe (35%). Looking more closely at Europe, the game sold an estimated 92,473 units in the UK, 72,630 units in Germany, and 43,233 units in France.

Comparatively to other triple A title’s first week of sales, Horizon Zero Dawn sold around 1.4M more copies, Ghost Recon: Wildlands sold around 400 000 more titles and The Legend of Zelda sold about 800 000 more copies. While 1.03m sales for a game is still pretty great, This still puts Mass Effect: Andromeda behind its competitors.

Considering how hyped the game was before launch I expected the game to be a huge hit, personally, I think the mistake Bioware made was sending out the early review copies, doing so gave reviewers enough time to compare it to previous titles and showcase the downgrade. Of course, it is dishonest for a publisher to release ‘In-game footage’ at E3 which show brilliant graphics and animations and then release a product which is different to what they promised, but they kind of shot themselves in the foot with this one.

Perhaps, next time Bioware releases another game they will be open and honest and tell fans that their game will need a longer delay to release a better product.
