Castle Wolfenstein Movie To Be Written And Directed By Roger Avary

November 2, 2012 by Matt Hawkins

You might know him as the guy who was partly responsible for Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.

A live-action, feature length adaption of Castle Wolfenstein has just been announced, reports Destructoid. It will be produced by Panorama Media, led by Samuel Hadida, who also revealed the project's writer and director: Roger Avary.

According to Hadida:

"With Roger at the helm, we expect everyone will join us for a wild and fun cinematic ride that will grab contemporary film audiences with the same irreverent, hip, over the top approach that Roger brought to PULP FICTION and the other films he has either written or directed.  It is a big action adventure but also strongly character driven and based on a very solid story."

Roger Avary is best known as the man who helped Quentin Tarantino write both Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Avary also co-wrote True Romance with Tarantino, a film that was also produced by Hadida.

Avary had this to say about his upcoming project:

"I’ve been playing the WOLFENSTEIN games since I was a kid, and feel that their outlandish sensibility has deeply influenced my own writing and directing throughout my career.  I have always thought WOLFENSTEIN, transformed and opened for the screen to wider audiences not familiar with the games, would be a major cinematic experience, which is why I introduced it to Samuel.  He bought the rights, and I could not be happier that we are now embarking on this adventure."

One thing many people have failed to mention is that this is not Avary's first time dealing with video games. He also wrote the screening play for the first Silent Hill big screen adaptation. One that was beloved by a decent chunk of the critics, but was nevertheless a commercial failure. Hopefully he'll have better luck here.
