Controversial Interactive Movie ‘Night Trap’ Coming to PS4

April 26, 2017 by Katrina Filippidis

Violence and vampires.

When Night Trap first came out in 1992, it caused quite a stir; Like the original Mortal Kombat (which came out just one week prior) Night Trap was singled out for its mature themes and led to the formation of the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) for computer and video games. This didn’t stop Night Trap from being ported to other platforms, like Sega 32X, MS-DOS and Apple Macintosh, and more recently, designer James Riley launched a kickstarter to bring back a remastered version of the game. It didn’t quite hit its $330,000 USD target, prompting an update in which the developers said they were “yet to decide” if they’d revisit the project. Turns out it was just a matter of time.

In what came as a huge surprise to many, publisher Limited Run Games announced today that Night Trap would be releasing both digitally and physically for PlayStation 4. There will be three different covers, representing all US Sega CD releases, likely in celebration of the game’s 25th anniversary. The pricing is yet to be decided, but Night Trap’s been rated T on account of its “blood, violence, and sexual content.”

Developer Screaming Villains has also uploaded the original, very retro Night Trap theme song for anyone who’s keen.
