Corsair K63 Tenkeyless Mechanical Keyboard Review

April 2, 2017 by Adam Priest

Welcome to the mechanical keyboard club.

Corsair’s made some great advances in the field of gaming peripherals, and the new K63 Mechanical Keyboard is no slouch. Their latest entry into the world of gaming is a “tenkeyless” keyboard, meaning that it doesn’t come with a number pad on the right. This sleek, small-form keyboard is perfect for anyone gaming on the go to LAN centers—especially useful for germaphobes who don’t want to game with anyone else’s grimy keyboard.

The K63 is priced at an affordable $80, much less than its big brother, the K95 RGB Platinum. Despite its relative affordability, the K63 offers everything you’d need out of a gaming keyboard: good keys, solid backlighting and media functions at the top. It doesn’t have macro keys—but why would you want them on a keyboard without a numpad?

Fortunately, you can program the F1 to F12 keys to function however you’d like in games thanks to the accompanying Corsair Utility Engine software. There’s also a windows lock key, so you can put an end to accidentally tabbing back to the desktop during any heated gaming matches.

The keys are all backlit in red, which you can customize through the software to switch them on or off individually or configure their brightness.

Corsair doesn’t skimp on switches, and offers high-end Cherry MX Red switches with gold contacts. They don’t offer the same resistance as brown or blue keys and are arguably designed for gaming, but your mileage may vary. Personally, we don’t mind playing with mechanical keys that don’t have loud clicky sounds or tactile feedback. They’re still incredibly comfortable to type on and volumes better than any membrane keyboard.

If you’re in the market for an affordable mechanical keyboard, the Corsair K63 is a fantastic option.

Disclosure: A unit was provided for review.
