EA’s Games on Wii U to Require Origin

October 22, 2012 by Jeanine Celestin-Greer

EA is doing what they do best

Hope you don't hate Origin. Or if you do, hopefully you're not planning to buy a Wii U and play any EA games on it anytime soon. According to an updated Electronic Arts privacy policy document spotted by Gamespot, Wii U gamers will need to have an Origin account to play EA titles online. A few other things that have some people riled up include the fact the reminder of Origin's terms of service…which means you have to agree to allow EA to collect your email address, friend list, country, language and date of birth.

Oh and even your Mii information. It's not really so different than what most current providers ask customers to do (which they almost always agree to, without even reading the details) but somehow just knowing it makes it seem worse, doesn't it? But before you get the pitchforks, remember that this same policy also applies to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 EA games.

The document also mentions a Nintendo Network ID but it's unknown if this refers to the Wii's friend codes (that are most likely in place to protect young users) or something else.

What do you think? An outrage or no big deal?
