Halo 4’s Original Soundtrack Is Now Available

October 22, 2012 by Matt Hawkins

Via the iTunes Store, Amazon’s MP3 Store, and Google Play.

With the release of Halo 4 finally in the horizon, not only will be able to see what new troubles Master Chief must take care of this time, but how he fares in the hands of his new caretakers.

While 343 Industries has done a fairly decent job of shaping the Halo universe that Bungie established, the real test will be how their first full-fledged game will handle, and the start of a brand new trilogy at that.

Not only will how it plays be under intense scrutiny, but how it looks as well, and long with how it also sounds. Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori’s mesmerizing and soul stirring music has punctuated virtually every Halo game, from part one till Reach. It's hard to believe that the men who gave us the now iconic Halo theme are no longer with the franchise.

So who is their replacement by the way? Why, it's Neil Davidge, best know for his association with experimental electronica ensemble Massive Attack. Halo 4 is his first video game soundtrack, and has some mighty big shoes to fill. And how does his musical take on the Halo universe fare? Will we have to wait till November 6th, when the entire package arrives?

Actually, no. Released earlier today onto the various music portals operated by Apple, Amazon, and Google is the soundtrack. There's two flavors to choose from: the Standard Edition, which includes 15 songs and a digital book, and Deluxe Edition, which contains 6 additional pieces of music, mostly club-like remixes. Hardly a shocker, given Davidge's background.

The prices of the two offerings are $8.99 and $11.99 respectively.
