Sword of Farogal 2 Kickstarter Hits Funding Goal

October 15, 2012 by Nick Lalone

Now there will be even more ways to die!

The Roguelike is an expansive type of game with a whole lot of different games froma variety of entries on different operating systems, consoles, and game systems. If you were a fan of the Commodore 64, you may have heard of a unique entry named Sword of Farogal.

This game has received a few nods over the years for being one of the first computer games to introduce the elements of what would become “Roguelike.” This includes randomly generated dungeons, extreme difficulty, and a variety of ways to die.

Computer Gaming World includes the game on its 150 best games of all time.

So, at the beginning of September, those same heads that nodded toward Sword of Farogal for its innovative gameplay and unique mechanics, turned toward a discussion and a kickstarter for a sequel. After a month of fundraising, it reached its goal and so the game is now in full development.

This new project will stay true to the original design goals of the first game but will appear on iOS, Mac’s OSX, Windows, and Linux in May of 2013.

The game boasts that there will be 100 procedurally generated dungeon levels with several classes and character types that are new to the sequel. These include the Fighter, Ranger, Thief, Magic User and each of these will include a male and female counterpart.

The kickstarter also promises new combat, ranged weapons, armor, magic, effects, and items as well as new monsters and side-quests.

Fans of the series and those curious to know more about the progress they have made toward their release can check out http://www.fargoal.com/ for more info.
