Last month, I reported on the development of a little known game called Arcadian Atlas. Made by small time indie developer Twin Otter Studios, Arcadian Atlas is a tactical RPG designed in the vein of ‘90s classics like Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre. Like those games, Arcadian Atlas is also set to be turn-based, and is played from an isometric viewpoint. Eschewing 3D graphics in favor of old-school, sprite-based visuals, Arcadian Atlas looks charming to a fault. Intrigued by the game, I conducted an interview with one of its creators, Becca Bair.
At the time of this writing, Arcadian Atlas has less than 13 hours to go on its Kickstarter and is only $15k away from reaching its modest goal of $90k—a far cry from many larger projects. It’s planned for release on the PC.
The game recently earned the support of Bioshock creator Ken Levine, who gave the devs his blessing to add cameos for Bioshock Infinite‘s Booker and Elizabeth.
Having spoken to the devs, and seeing what they’ve made so far, Arcadian Atlas looks like a rare game that could only be the product of a small group of game developers–it’s what I’d call “lovingly made.” It’s the kind of game that I could personally imagine spending a lot of time playing, so I’d love to see it funded and developed.
If you’re a fan of tactical turn-based RPGs, you can support Arcadian Atlas on Kickstarter before the clock runs out.
Disclosure: I’m backing Arcadian Atlas on Kickstarter.
