Dan Trachtenberg, who rose to fame on a Portal fan film, has been confirmed to direct a new Cloverfield sequel.
In fact, the film, 10 Cloverfield Lane, has been discreetly in production for some time now, and was revealed just yesterday, only a few weeks away from theatrical release this March 11.
With 10 Cloverfield Lane, the world goes post-apocalyptic, as it chronicles the story of a family living in an underground bunker. No word yet if it’s the same monster or not, and how it will relate to the family’s tale.
Trachtenberg’s first claim to fame was fan film Portal No Escape. Raising a million views on YouTube back in the day, the short has now accumulated 16.8 million views. However, the truth is Trachtenberg has been a director for years, working on commercials under the radar for companies like Lexus and Nike.
Trachtenberg even worked on a game himself, in a way. Working with Tight Films and Matt Wolf, he helped develop an ARG to promote Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.
It certainly would be interesting to see Trachtenberg reexplore his interest in games in film sometime, but for now, we can enjoy his take on the found footage monster movie.
