A new trailer for the upcoming Mirror’s Edge reboot, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, which shows off some of the first-person parkour gameplay has been released.
The trailer follows the game’s protagonist, Faith, taking the view through what is presumed to be a typical mission or level in the final game. Faith attempts to break into a building owned by a company called Elysium to steal some information. The trailer largely shows moments of gameplay, showing Faith’s perspective as she jumps across rooftops, ascends buildings, runs along walls, and more, while interspersing short, story-based cutscenes that relate to the mission at hand.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was announced at Electronic Arts’ E3 2013 press conference, but did not receive its Feb. 23, 2016 release date until E3 2015. Catalyst will be an origin story for protagonist Faith and last week at Gamescom, EA DICE told IGN that the game would indeed by a reboot of the 2008 original game.
"Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is a reboot. We basically took the things we really liked about the first game. Faith, first and foremost, the first-person free-running gameplay, and also the aesthetics, which we’ve built on, of course," said design director Erik Oeldahl.
"But it’s a reboot. We’re telling Faith’s origin story, so the events of the first game actually don’t really exist. Maybe they will at one time in the future."
