PUBG Becomes Third Best-Seller On Steam
CEO Gabe Newell revealed yesterday.
Bluehole Studio’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds took the world by storm last year amassing nearly 1 million sales per week – an extremely impressive number considering the game was only in early access.
But how well has this hot-selling game done in relation to the other titles on Steam? Well, during a presentation of the new DOTA 2 card game, Artifact, Valve CEO Gabe Newell revealed that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now the third top-selling steam game of all time.
“You can have a relatively new game like PUBG, and […] they can capitalize on all the other multiplayer games, and all of the technology, [and] the fact that China is now a huge market for anybody who does PC game development,” Newell said. “So PUBG can come out of pretty much nowhere and become the third largest selling game on Steam’s history. Their gross revenue over all-time is already number three in fairly short order,” he added.
Honestly, I was quite surprised to hear that PUBG was only the third best selling game on the platform. Considering how massive the demand was, I would expect it even to have reached 1st or 2nd. That being said, the game hasn’t even been out for a year yet – so there is still lots of time for the title to snag first place.
