  • Platforms: PS4

Days Gone is an upcoming action-adventure title surrounding a post-apocalyptic world setting. Players take on the role of a man named Deacon St. John, who was once a former bounty hunter. Now that the world has gone awry and a global pandemic has killed off nearly all humanity, Deacon St. John will have to use his bounty hunter skills to survive in a world full of insane gangs and zombie-like creatures.

This will be an open world video game where developers have stated that the players within the game can complete various tasks multiple different ways. As it stands right now, Days Gone does not have a specific release date attached to the title just yet but it’s expected to launch at some point this coming year, 2018.

State of Decay 2
  • Developer: Undead Labs
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios
  • Platforms: PC, XB1
  • Release Date: 2018

There are not too many details released for State of Decay 2 as of right now. We do know that this video game is a sequel to the 2013 State of Decay and will focus heavily on cooperative gameplay with up to three other players.

Overall, State of Decay 2 is a zombie-survival game that lets players have their own unique story. While battling zombies is very much a key aspect of the upcoming title release, players are encouraged to work together in setting up their own community that’s able to successfully take out the undead threat.

The previous installment release saw a number of different zombie subtypes which had unique abilities about them. For instance, certain zombies would make more noise to attract a horde while others could be larger and more powerful to defeat.

We’re expecting to see more subtypes release in the upcoming sequel slated to launch later this year.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead
  • Developer: Overkill Software
  • Publisher: Starbreeze Studios, 505 Games
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1
  • Release: 2018

The Walking Dead is an upcoming first-person co-op shooter based onThe Walking Dead comic book series. Players will have to survive together in a world that has been dominated by mindless flesh-eating walkers.

While details surrounding the video game narrative have yet to be fully fleshed out to the public, the development team has announced that a VR version of the game will be launching for the game as well. Unfortunately, the VR-experience to the video game does not have a specific release date yet other than at some point in 2018.

Currently, we know that players will have four different playable characters with their own abilities and play styles. We’re interested in seeing just how the zombies react in this game and how the different abilities will come into play during the combat portion of the game.

Telltale The Walking Dead Final Season
  • Developer: Telltale Games
  • Publisher: Telltale Games
  • Platforms: TBA
  • Release: TBA

Telltale Games is known for delivering fans a fantastic experience with whatever IP they get their hands on. One of the more popular franchises the developers have worked on is The Walking Dead. With a total of three main seasons released, the narrative has followed a number of characters through their journey of being of the last living humans in a world covered by a sea of undead.

With that said, the main protagonist has continued to be Clementine, a young girl who has grown within this post-apocalyptic world. Currently, the last season for the video game series is slated to launch next year, 2018.

Resident Evil 2 Remake
  • Developer: Capcom
  • Publisher: Capcom
  • Platforms: TBA
  • Release: 2018

Much like the first installment of the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil 2 will soon receive its own full HD remake. The video game doesn’t have too many details out as if we’ll see any specific changes from the original Resident Evil 2 video game that launched back in 1998.

However, one thing is for sure, this is a remake built from the ground up rather than a remastered edition. Unfortunately, there’s no release date or specific platforms announced for the video game though it’s likely the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms will be receiving the title. What’s uncertain is if we’ll also see the Nintendo Switch will potentially also receive a port of the game.

In the past, when Capcom went back to bring out a new release of the original Resident Evil title, they introduced a new zombie variant known as the Crimson Head. Info is scarce for this upcoming remake for Resident Evil 2, but it would be interesting to see if they also alter some of the zombies players will come across in the game.

Metal Gear Survive
  • Developer: Konami Digital Entertainment
  • Publisher: Konami
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: February 20, 2018

While not your normal Metal Gear Solid title, the upcoming Metal Gear Survive video game looks interesting. The title follows the events from the end of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and before the events of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Upon Big Boss leaving Mother Base, a wormhole opens up and begins to absorb the remaining soldiers. Tossed into a new reality, you’ll find yourself against a slew of hostile zombie-like creatures. Can you find the materials needed to return home or will you be left as nothing more than a quick meal for the blood thirsty enemies?

World War Z
  • Developer: Saber Interactive
  • Publisher: Saber Interactive
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2018

World War Z became a hit novel when it released and since then the story was adapted loosely into a blockbuster film. Now that story is moving into the video game industry with a title being developed under Saber Interactive.

We’re still waiting to hear more information about the game, but from what we can tell so far, the video game may be aimed more towards the novel than the film. Players will be going across the world in different regions as they partake in survival stories against the zombie pandemic.

Furthermore, the game will feature four player co-op which means you and your friends can blast through the undead. There seems to be a massive amount of undead coming at players so you may not get the same vibe and feel as Left 4 Dead though, at the same time, the reveal trailer does show players unloading assault weapons into the horde rather than rushing to safety.

Out of pure assumption, there is bound to be a few different types of zombie threats to face against, similar to the Left 4 Dead and State of Decay series. However, we’ll have to wait and just see what the developers unveil about the game in the coming months.

The Last of Us Part II
  • Developer: Naughty Dog
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: TBA

Okay, we’re probably being a bit too optimistic for The Last of Us Part II releasing this year, but we’ll update the release date when it’s officially announced. The Last of Us was a massive success and became a critical hit winning countless awards. However, the story never felt like we were done with the story of Joel and Ellie once the game came to an end.

Without spoiling information regarding the first installment, we’re thrilled that Naughty Dog is revisiting Joel and Ellie again. Not too many details have been shared quite yet but the zombie-like creatures still seem to be a big threat in this world.

In the first title, there was a variety of enemy creatures to face against along the way and we can see these creatures possibly evolving or carrying additional attributes depending on where the human was infected. Regardless, while Naughty Dog is keeping their lips tightly sealed, we’re hoping that more information along with a release date slips out during this year’s E3 expo.
