2018 is quickly approaching and with it will come a slew of new video game titles to look forward to playing. With that said, now’s a good time to start marking down what video games to keep an eye on when they officially launch next year. Let us lend a hand, in this list, in particular, we’re going over the top upcoming 3DS video games launching in 2018.

Kirby Battle Royale

Kirby Battle Royale is an upcoming Kirby title that is set to be an action fighting video game. While the video game will contain a narrative for players to go through at their leisure, the heart of the video game will be based around fighting a variety of enemy characters.

Likewise, you can expect the video game to feature a multiplayer as well to allow friends the ability to duke it out when the video game drops exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS in January of 2018.

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology

Radiant Historia released quite a few years ago on the Nintendo DS. However, if you never got a chance to enjoy the video game when it first came out then you’ll luckily get an enhanced edition released in the coming year.

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is an expanded remake of the original video game that will continue to deliver an entertaining RPG experience for gamers. Overall, the video game will tell the story of a war between the nations of Alistel and Granorg on the Vainqueur continent. The war has turned the continent into a wasteland, but after a soldier by the name of Alistel discovered the White Chronicle, a book that can allow the owner to travel between timelines, the war may be prevented altogether.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was an action puzzle video game that was developed for the Nintendo Wii U and released into the market back in 2014. The game will have players controlling toad as he maneuvers around levels collecting gems and stars while avoiding hostile enemies and solving puzzles.

This upcoming release for both the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch will see new levels based off Super Mario Odyssey and it seems that the Nintendo Switch version will see a two-player game mode.

Currently, both platforms are set to receive the game on July 13, 2018.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux

Similar to our previous title in this list, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is based off an earlier title release. The video game is an upcoming enhanced port for the Nintendo 3DS from the original Nintendo DS release of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey.

This is an RPG that acts as the fourth entry in the Shin Megami Tensei series. Overall, the narrative follows an event within the 21st century where a massive atomic collapse creating a black void known as Schwarzwelt.

Quickly it’s discovered that the black void has the ability to swallow up anything it touches which has sparked a new task force by the United Nations to go out and discover a means to shut the black void up completely.

The Alliance Alive

The Alliance Alive is an upcoming RPG that takes place a thousand years ago where demons have invaded the world. Fleeing to stay safe, humanity found themselves fighting back a nearly unstoppable force with entire cities being swallowed up with little effort. This grueling rule led to a humanity resistance building up to unleash a massive attack that would change the world for the better.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

The eleventh main installment to the Dragon Quest franchise is Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The video game keeps up with the same formula that you’ve likely been accustomed to with the past Dragon Quest video game releases. Players will be exploring the world and fight against a variety of monsters as they go through the RPG narrative.

Detective Pikachu

  • Platform: Nintendo 3DS
  • Release: March 23, 2018

Detective Pikachu is an upcoming spin-off video game from the Pokemon franchise. Within the game, players will work with a talking Pikachu and a boy named Tim Goodman who are set to solve mysteries. It seems that the Pokemon where Tim Goodman lives has become unpredictable leaving Detective Pikachu and Tim to pull their wits together and figure out just what is going on.

The gameplay consists mainly of walking around scenes to find clues and talking with other people or pokemon to find new information. This particular title has already released in Japan and a film company has started to create a live-action film based on the game.

However, for markets outside of Japan, gamers can expect the game to release on March 23, 2018.

Shovel Knight King of Cards

The final expansion for Shovel Knight is set to release this year. Known as King of Cards, this narrative will be unveiling just how the King Knight ended up on the throne and why he joined The Order of No Quarter.

This particular campaign will run players $9.99, however, if you own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove then you’ll get the campaign completely for free. What players can expect is four new worlds with over thirty new courses.

Through the journey, the King Knight will be looking to best the Three Kings who rule the land while bashing anyone who dares to stand in his way.

SteamWorld Dig 2

SteamWorld Dig 2 had finally made its way onto the Nintendo 3DS this year. This is a sequel to SteamWorld Dig which involves mining and the main character named Dorothy. Dorothy is a steam-driven robot who previously appeared in SteamWorld Dig as an ally.

Similar to its predecessor, this is an action-adventure platform video game title where Dorothy will use a pickaxe to find new pathways underground, collect resources and fight off enemy creatures that come across her pathway.

If you have not played SteamWorld Dig then you may want to hold off on SteamWorld Dig 2 as the story will pick up right where the first title leaves off.

Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Dead Heat Breakers

The third installment of the Dillion’s Rolling Western series is slated to launch soon. Dillion’s Rolling Western: The Dead Heat Breakers is then game coming out this year where players are in for an action-adventure packed video game with tower defense elements.

Within the game, players will be hopping into the protagonist’s shoes as he defends frontier villages against rock-like creatures. However, this time around, Dillon will be teaming up with your Mii animal custom created character.

A demo for Dillion’s Rolling Western: The Dead Heat Breakers will be releasing on May 10, 2018, with the full game releasing shortly after on May 24, 2018.

Treasurenauts is an upcoming action platformer that looks similar to the hit title, Shovel Knight. Within this upcoming title, players will be fighting against a slew of enemies, bosses and collecting precious loot along the way. However, the game has been stuck in development for a number of years now.

The game was first unveiled in 2013 and now years later it seems that we may finally get the Treasurenauts for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch.

Of course, there’s no set date for the video game quite yet so we’ll have to cross our fingers for now and hope that we’ll see the game make its way into the market before the year is up.

Shakedown Hawaii

From the developers behind Retro City Rampage comes Shakedown Hawaii. This is an action open world adventure video game where players are tasked with building up a corporate empire through any means necessary.

Being a corporate empire, there’s stiff competition out there so you’re forced to take them out. Gather your arsenal and wreak havoc against those who wish not to “re-zone” their operation somewhere else.

Currently, the game is slated to launch in 2018, though a specific release date has not yet been attached to the project.

Sushi Striker The Way Of Sushido

Sushi Strike: The Way of Sushido is a wacky puzzle video game where players will fight off enemies using sushi. Because it’s a puzzle game, there is a bit of strategy that goes into attacks. Players will have to create a chain of sushi by connecting various sushi dishes lined up on a conveyor below. However, if you connect the chain to the wrong dish you’ll lose the chain. Likewise, you only have seven seconds before you’re forced into losing the chain of dishes or launching them into the enemy.

Luigi’s Mansion

While the Nintendo 3DS received the sequel Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, the 3DS platform will soon have the original title released this year. Revealed by a Nintendo Direct in March of 2018, Luigi’s Mansion will receive a remake for the 3DS where the game will also feature a new Boss Rush mode.

Outside of the new mode, the same gameplay will be available where players will take on the role of Luigi who seeks out the disappearance of Mario in a haunted mansion. Armed with a powerful vacuum cleaner, Luigi will have to defeat the ghosts and solve puzzles in order to locate Mario.

Nintendo is also looking to make good use of the secondary screen by adding a full map. Now players will be able to see just where they are in the mansion by looking at the secondary screen.

WarioWare Gold

It’s been a few years but WarioWare is finally receiving a new installment this year on the Nintendo 3DS. Just like past installments, WarioWare Gold will feature a massive collection of mini-games which becomes mayhem to complete quickly to progress.

WarioWare Gold is said to have three hundred mini-games all of which will require quick reflexes to complete. Likewise, the game will require players to make use of all the various controls of the Nintendo 3DS so that could mean using the microphone, moving the console around physically, tapping the touchscreen, or even using one of the physical buttons.

Currently, WarioWare Gold is slated to launch on August 3, 2018, for the Nintendo 3DS.
