For instance, Capcom has placed larger maps, a more seamless experience between zones and what’s a Monster Hunter video game without the ability to hunt with friends? Outside of the offline campaign, the game will allow a four-player online co-op opportunity.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there’s any word on the video game seeing a release on the Nintendo Switch, but you can expect a launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.

This is a unique action-adventure video game as it will require two players with the display being split-screen regardless of playing the video game locally or through online. All-in-all, the narrative is based around two prisoners who must survive and escape a prison. Their stories will be told simultaneously and while one character may be in a cutscene, the other will be able to freely move and execute their tasks.

As you can likely imagine, A Way Out will focus on gamers having to work together in order to escape the authorities and accomplish goals.

Now that the world has gone awry and a global pandemic has killed off nearly all humanity, Deacon St. John will have to use his bounty hunter skills to survive in a world full of insane gangs and zombie-like creatures.

This will be an open world video game where developers have stated that the players within the game can complete various tasks multiple different ways. Players will also still play the game in third-person where they will control a powerful agent tasked to seek out and destroy an evil terrorist organization.

Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Developer: Rockstar Studios
  • Publisher: Rockstar Games
  • Platforms: PS4, XBO

Rockstar Games has crafted up a number of incredible pieces of work. Their beloved long-running series Grand Theft Auto, the single IP release of Bully, and of course their old western series, Red Dead Redemption just to name a few. Red Dead Redemption has a massive following and gamers all over the world are undoubtedly waiting for new information to trickle down from Rockstar for their upcoming installment, Red Dead Redemption 2.

This third person western will follow an outlaw named Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they roam the country. We’re still waiting to see just what extra features are tossed into this upcoming installment.

We imagine that there will be shootouts, shady card games, horse racing, among several other random events that could sway your outlook to the general public.

Vampyr
  • Developer: Dontnod Entertainment
  • Publisher: Focus Home Interactive
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: June 5 ,2018

Dontnod Entertainment has crafted up some popular titles so far. Their debut title Remember Me sparked the highly beloved Life is Strange IP.  Following up the release of Life is Strange is Vampyr, a vastly different IP then what the developers have worked.

Vampyr takes place during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic in London where players take the role of a doctor Jonathan Reid. Our protagonist is in a predicament as he is a vampire with a bloodthirsty nature, but is battling his condition with his Hippocratic Oath.

This upcoming title will give players not only the ability to unlock new abilities and skills but dialogue options to help steer the narrative. This is similar to the past IP release by Dontnod Entertainment, Life is Strange, where gamers could make decisions that would branch out the storyline.

State of Decay 2
  • Developer: Undead Labs
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios
  • Platforms: PC, XB1
  • Release: May 22, 2018

State of Decay 2 is an upcoming zombie survival game set in an open world environment. The game takes place one year after civilization fell thanks to the zombie pandemic.

Now only small groups that band together survive in the world. The game will follow players as they explore the open world, collect resources and build a community.

During your journey, you’ll be able to gather survivors who can help in your makeshift community as you battle for life instead of battling against the dead.

Anthem
  • Developer: BioWare
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: DELAYED 2019

The upcoming Anthem video game will be a third-person shooter much like BioWare’s past video game franchise, Mass Effect. In order for players to transverse the world, the use of an Exo suit will be required which are known as Javelins within the video game. These Javelins will give players new powers and abilities such as the flight to soar through the open air or propel them through the depths of an ocean.

So far what we know about Anthem is that players will be taking the role of a freelancer who finds work by protecting civilians by exploring the dangerous landscapes outside of the safe zones. Likewise we know that the game will feature some co-operative multiplayer elements, but there have been no fine details on the matter quite yet.

Shenmue 3
  • Developer: Neilo, Ys Net
  • Publisher: Deep Silver
  • Platforms: PC, PS4
  • Release: 2018

It’s been a longtime coming but we’re finally getting a release of Shenmue 3. The video game is the third installment to the Shenmue saga that launched starting back in 1999, but with the titles not being a commercial success, the third installment found itself in development hell.

Now that we’re finally gearing towards its release, players will be able to pick up the story of Ryo Hazuki. What we know is that the video game will still take place after the events of Shenmue II where Ryo Hazuki continues his journey to find his father’s killer, Lan Di.

If you enjoyed the past two installments then you can expect the same third person style action-adventure gameplay. However, we’re still waiting for more information to be unveiled and a specific release date.

Currently, the game is slated to launch towards the end of 2018 which could possibly mean a delay into 2019.

God of War
  • Developer: SIE Santa Monica Studio
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: April 20, 2018

What can we say about God of War that you probably are not already fully aware of? The video game franchise got its start back in the days of the PlayStation 2 and is still going strong today. However, this upcoming title, in particular, is more of a soft reboot to the franchise.

Players will be controlling Kratos in a whole new world. This time around, Kratos has a son to watch after and while he had slain the gods featured in the Greek mythology, players will be up against a new Norse mythology.

While adding a son into the mix does change the storyline of revenge, we’re still fully expecting a hack-and-slash action-adventure title.

Psychonauts 2
  • Developer: Double Fine Productions
  • Publisher: Starbreeze Studios
  • Platforms; PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2019

If you’re familiar with Double Fine Productions and director, Time Schafer, then you’ve likely either played or fully aware of Psychonauts. The video game released back in 2005 and after years of a growing base of fans, Psychonauts 2 was finally kicked into development.

This will continue on with the gameplay mechanics of the first title so players can expect a third-person platform title controlling the protagonist Raz.

The narrative will follow the events of Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin which is a first-person VR video game released earlier this year. In fact, the video game was released in order to bridge the events from the first title and the upcoming sequel next year.

Darksiders 3
  • Developer: Gunfire Games
  • Publisher: THQ Nordic
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2018

The Darksiders franchise continues on with developers Gunfire Games launching the third main installment sometime in 2018. This franchise is an action role-playing with a ton of hack-and-slash goodness.

So far, what we know about the video game is that the title will take place in a parallel world of events from the past video game installments. In this war-torn Earth, our protagonist, Fury, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, is in a quest to destroy the Seven Deadly Sins.

Detroit: Become Human
  • Developer: Quantic Dream
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: May 25, 2018

Set in Detroit, Michigan, and developed by Quantic Dream, gamers who enjoy choice-driven narratives will want to keep tabs on Detroit: Become Human. This is a futuristic neo-noir thriller that’s based off an old 2012 tech demo from Quantic Dream that became viral online.

Players will take control of three different characters, all of which are androids. You will have Kara, a female android that has escaped the factory from where she was made. There’s also Connor, who is a male android that is tasked with hunting down deviant androids. Lastly, there is Markus, another male android who has begun an android revolution against the human race.

This video game is all about choices and it certainly seems that there will be a ton of them to choose through within the game. In fact, there are so many choices that each will alter the narrative storyline and can have grave consequences with your characters. We’re not positive just how long this narrative journey will be, but it seems like there will be plenty of replay value for when Detroit: Become Human officially releases in May of this year.

Code Vein
  • Developer: Bandai Namco Studios
  • Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XO
  • Release: 2018

Code Vein is an upcoming third person title being developed by Shift, which you may know from their past works such as the God Eater franchise. Since its announcement, little information was given out in regards to Code Vein, although, thanks to the Tokyo Game Show, a new narrative trailer was officially unveiled.

This is an action role-playing video game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that is flooded with vampires. It seems that the worlds blood supply is running thin and as a result, there’s become a division between vampires.

Our protagonist is a rookie who must fight against the Queen and the corrupted bloodthirsty vampires that gave their allegiance to this seemingly unstoppable force. Being an action role-playing video game, there’s more freedom in how players attack their opponents, but the developers have opted to run with a Dark Souls style approach.

Spider-Man
  • Developer: Insomniac Games
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: 2018

Spider-Man is an upcoming video game title under developers Insomniac Games who are previously known for their Ratchet & Clank and Resistance video game franchises. Their latest upcoming title will breathe some new life into the Spider-Man story as this video game title will not be linked to any past comic books or cinematic movies.

Furthermore, we’re not going through some origin story of Spider-Man, instead, the video game will be focused around Peter Parker, eight years after he has established the role of being the famed hero. From what we know so far, this is an open-world title where the narrative will follow Peter Parker graduating college while keeping up as protector of New York City.

The video game will also give players the ability to go through the narrative as not only Spider-Man but as the civilian Peter Parker character as well. From what we know from so far through trailers released, Spider-Man’s main antagonist will be Mister Negative, who turns out to be Martin Li, one of New York’s prominent philanthropist and owner of the F.E.A.S.T. shelters that Aunt May works at.

Outside of standard combat, gameplay will also include quick time events with an emphasis on stealth.

Final Fantasy VII Remake
  • Developer: Square Enix Business Division 1
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platform: PS4
  • Release: TBA

Out of all the Final Fantasy video game titles to have released, there’s no arguing that Final Fantasy VII is the most recognized and well-known among gamers. The video game title was such a big hit on the original PlayStation that it was still being brought up and talked about nearly decades later.

Now original fans and newcomers can once again relive the narrative journey soon with the Final Fantasy VII Remake. This will be a retelling of the original narrative that follows Cloud Strife and the eco-terrorist group known as Avalanche as they battle against the corrupt megacorporation, Shinra.

There are some slight change ups to the remake, for instance, this will be an action role-playing title, but with so many requests to see a remake release, it’s a safe bet that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a day-one buy for a majority of gamers.

There’s no set release date attached to the video game just yet but we’re hoping to see the title come out at some point this coming year, 2018.

The Last of Us Part 2
  • Developer: Naughty Dog
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: TBA

It’s no secret that one of the most beloved and cherished video games to have released for Sony’s last generation console was Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us. The video game was a massive hit with a deep dramatic narrative storyline that left us eagerly waiting for more.

Naughty Dog has unveiled that their upcoming sequel to the video game known as The Last of Us Part II is currently in development. We’re still left with little to no information other than the fact that the sequel will take place five years after the first video game with Ellie and Joel confirmed to be present.

Just what players can expect from the upcoming sequel remains to be seen, though I think we are all hoping that the narrative journey will continue to be just as strong and deep.

Beyond Good & Evil 2
  • Developer: Ubisoft Montpellier
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Platforms: TBA
  • Release: TBA

Beyond Good & Evil first debuted back in 2003 and since then gamers have been itching to get a sequel. While Beyond Good & Evil 2 may sound like a sequel, it’s actually a prequel to the first title.

We’re still very much in the early stages of marketing so not too many details have been unleashed to the masses just yet. Instead, there is a small snippet of information about the game through the official Ubisoft YouTube video post.

“System 3 has become the center of interstellar trade and colonization in the Milky Way of the 24th century, thanks to the creation of Hybrid slaves. While private enterprises fight over resources and power, the first colonists weave together the rich and diverse spiritual and cultural heritages of Old Earth to give meaning to their existence. In this new era of piracy, we will rise from lowly pirate to legendary captain at the helm of massive star-faring vessels, adventuring alongside crews of colorful characters to fight for freedom and the right to determine our own fate among the stars!”

Players will work their way up from a struggling pirate to a captain of a massive star-faring vessel. Overall, the setting is based around System 3 which is a center location for interstellar trade and colonization into the Milky Way. During their journey, it would seem likely that there will be a fight to free those in slavery within System 3.

Kingdom Hearts 3
  • Developer: Square Enix 1st Production Department
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: 2018

Everyone should be well aware of the Kingdom Hearts franchise. The third installment is expected to release sometime 2018, continuing the narrative Disney story. Since the release of Kingdom Hearts 2, The Walt Disney Company had acquired Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Entertainment, and Lucasfilm, which could result in seeing a variety of characters and worlds from these three newly acquired companies. Just as before, we can expect Sora to be the leading protagonist in a journey filled with Disney settings and Final Fantasy characters.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
  • Developer: Sega
  • Publisher: Sega
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: April 17, 2018

For those familiar with the Yakuza series, the seventh main installment of the series is slated to launch worldwide in April of this year. Of course, if you’re unfamiliar with the series, you may want to go back and play through some of the past installments as Yakuza 6: The Song of Life picks up the story from the previous game.

The game had already released in Japan where it has received a positive reception. Gamers can still expect a brawler type gameplay set in an open world environment. Within the narrative, players will step into the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu once again who is on a mission to learn what has happened to Haruka after being locked away for three years.

Ghost of Tsushima
  • Developer: Sucker Punch
  • Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe
  • Platforms: PS4
  • Release: TBD

From the developers who brought up the Sly Cooper and Infamous series comes their latest IP, Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch has yet to unveil too many fine details about the game and we’re not necessarily positive we’ll see this game launch within 2018 so that may mean a future post update to note that the game is launching in the following year.

Ghost of Tsushima is a singleplayer narrative that takes place in 1274 Japan. Samurai were once the greatest warriors to defend Japan, though that reign has ended after the ruthless Khan marches through terrorizing the island.

In the game, players will follow Jin, one of the last battered samurai who may be Japan’s only hope against Khan. Even with your armor, katana, and longbow, players will be against the odds of survival, that’s why Jin will have to forget the traditional ways.

Instead of the old ways, players will need to rise up and become a ghost, using unconventional war tactics to free Japan.

Left Alive
  • Developer: Square Enix
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platforms: PC, PS4
  • Release: 2018

Left Alive from development studio Square Enix is an upcoming survival action shooter and there are already gamers online suggesting that this could be the next Metal Gear Solid franchise. Not too many details are available with the upcoming title other than that players will be taking the role of three different protagonists.

It seems that these protagonists are set to tell the story of human survival during the war-torn Novo Slava in 2127. Players will be able to engage in gun battles or go into a more stealth approach by using your wit.

As you progress through the narrative, it seems that there will be a series of choices available that will give big consequences to the storyline. Currently, the game is slated to launch at some point this year.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Developer: Crystal Dynamics
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platforms: TBA (PS4, PC, XBO likely)
  • Release: 2018

(Note: No available trailer for Shadow of Tomb Raider. Video displayed is Rise of Tomb Raider.)

When Tomb Raider received its big reboot back in 2013, the series received a massive revival with new and veteran players enjoying the latest big adventure featuring Lara Croft. In 2015, a sequel to Tomb Raider landed into the market and much like the reboot, Rise of the Tomb Raider was a big hit.

Now gamers are waiting for the next big release known as Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Unfortunately, outside of an expected release date of sometime this year, no information has been released yet. Online, the community is anticipating a darker toned story simply from the title name, though that has yet to be confirmed.

We’ll simply have to wait and see just what the narrative holds, the official platforms being supported by the game and just when it will launch into the market.
